Why won't my HI 2151/20WC retain the calibration or parameters if power is removed?

Last updated 06/20/2014 09:36 AM

Question

Several of my HI 2151/20WC's will not retain the calibration or parameters if input power is removed. None of the units has a battery installed on the main board, although there is a provision on the board for mounting a battery. Why will some units retain the calibration and others not?

Answer

The HI 2151/20WC became OBSOLETE back in 1999. HI 2151/20WC has a memory storage device called a Secure Memory Module (SMM). The SMM contains a lithium battery with a life span between 3 and 7 years depending upon the environment. When this battery fails, the SMM no longer stores the memory. Unfortunately the last SMM was built in 2001 and are no longer available. You should upgrade to a current model instrument.
