Why is my HI 6600 continuously dropping offline?

Last updated 10/03/2016 03:06 PM

Question

I have the HI 6600 module connected to my ControlLogix PLC over EIP, however the Hardy unit continuously drops offline.  What is causing this and how do I correct the issue?

Answer

Some of the older Ethernet IP modules in the control logix system have a link between the TCP connection and the associated CIP connection.  If the TCP connection were closed, it would then also close the CIP connection.

The Hardy HI 6600 unot closes the TCP connection used to initially configure the table exchanges when it has completed configuring the table exchanges (CIP connection).  This is a common practice in devices; however, when the Ethernet Module closed the TCP connection , it also closed the CIP connection.  This caused the communications to be dropped between the Hardy module and the PLC.

Updating the firmware in the Ethernet Module has been found to correct this issue.
