Why doesn't my weight change after installing a HI 215IT summing junction box?

Question

I installed an HI 215IT summing junction box on my system and now the weight does not change. I measure a constant 9 Mv on TB9 (Signal + and Signal -) even when I add or remove weight. What is going on?

Answer

If you are using a the HI 215IT summing junction box, the C2® and sense wires must be properly installed to prevent noise from activating the relays.
NOTE:  The HI 3010 unit cannot use the HI 215IT summing box.

The C2® wires must be installed in a HI 215IT summing junction box even if the load cells are not C2® capable.

Things to check:

1. Using a multi meter with the controller turned on, disconnect the signal connection from each load cell and verify the DC millivolt signal changes with a weight change. The relays may be energized and not allowing the load cell signal to be sensed by the controller. Without the C2® lines balancing the circuit, the excitation voltage will drive the relays to the OPEN state.

2. With power on and verify there is 5 vdc on the C2® +/- lines on TB9.

3. Remove power and verify all the connectors are not shifted to the left or to the right, and are seated properly.

4. Verify the color code between the summing junction box to the weight controller is correct.

5. Restore power and check for proper operation.
