Why doesn't my Integrated Technician read each load cell?

Last updated 07/29/2015 09:58 AM

Question

When I select the IT feature I only see "LOAD CELL ALL" functions. Why doesn't my Integrated Technician read each load cell?

Answer

If you cannot read each load cell separately you will first need to verify that you have a Integrated Technician (IT) summing junction box.

Old HI 215JB or 215IT summing boards:
The part number of the IT circuit board is 0535-0465-01. A non-integrated technician summing junction box circuit board is the same number but a 0535-0465-05. The -01 card is populated with resistors, integrated circuits and relay modules. The -05 units have the designations, jumpers, and components drawing, but no electronic components installed. If you do not have an IT summing board you cannot read each load cell separately, you can only read the summed total of all load cells.

NOTE:  The HI 215IT summing cards are now obsolete and no longer available.

New HI 6010 or 6020 JB or IT summing boards:
The HI 6020 and HI 6010 boards have replaced the HI 215 boards.  The HI 6020 boards are a direct replacement to the HI 215.  They are the same dimensions and have the same functions.  They do have different size connectors on them so you would need to rewire the load cells to new connectors if you replace an older board with the new board.  These come in both the Integrated Technician and standard configuration as well as the availability of having trim pots on the board.  The HI 6020 boards also have the TB6 connector to an Auxiliary junction box if needed.
The HI 6010 boards are smaller in size and the connectors do not unplug so wiring is directly to the board.  These also do not have the Auxiliary connector so max number of load cells is 4.

If you have an IT summing box you should next verify that the C2® wires are installed. The C2® circuit is required to activate and control the IT junction box. The C2® wires are the communications path from the controller to the IT summing junction box.

The load cells do not have to be Hardy C2® second generation load sensors to function in the IT summing junction box. (Of course, you do not get all the benefits of C2®, but you will get the IT functionality.)

A calibration must be successfully completed to map the IT summing junction box to the controller.

The only instruments that are IT capable are:
HI 2151/30WC
HI 1746WS (must have WS 100 software)
HI 1756 WS
HI 1756FC
HI 1756-2WS
HI 1756-xDF
HI 1769WS
HI 1769FC
HI 1769-2WS
HI 3030
HI 4000 series
HI 6300 series
HI 6500 series
HI 6600 series

The HI 3010 filler dispenser has a similar type of load cell test feature as an option called Smart Diagnostics. The Smart Diagnostics circuit is installed inside the HI 3010 controller and each load cell cable must reach the controller. No junction box is used with this configuration.

All other weighing instruments are not IT capable and can damage the IT summing junction box if used. The HI 215IT summing circuit board will not work with other manufacturer's controllers or indicators.
