Question

Why doesn't anything appear on my HI 2151/30WC main display, and the upper status bar LEDs flash on one side? The unit is powered on and it is not responding to any keypad entries.

Answer

If your HI2151/30WC unit is powered up, nothing appears on the main display, and the status bar LEDs are flashing on one side, this may indicate an issue with connectors between the internal circuit boards of your unit. In the past we have seen dust, corrosion, and/or other contaminants degrade the connection between the internal circuit boards.

The following steps may be tried to solve this issue:

NOTE: Be sure to de-energize the HI 2151/30WC before performing any other work. Use approved static control device to prevent damage to components when you are handling sensitive electronics!

  1. Remove the fasteners on the back panel to free the circuit boards from the front display
  2. Remove the (5) screws that fasten the MAIN CONTROLLER PWA to the POWER/RELAY PWA.
  3. Identify the centrally located 24-pin connector between your main controller board at J6, and the power board at P6.
  4. Separate the two boards, visually inspect this connection for damage.
  5. Reverse this procedure to re-assemble your 2151/30WC. Ensure that the pins have full engagement.

Power up the unit.  If the preceding recommendations do not rectify the problem, then the instrument should be returned to the factory for evaluation/repair. You can request a Return Authorization number online.
