Why does the HI WS100 software lock up on my HI 1746WS?

Last updated 10/20/2014 10:20 AM

Question

When using the HI WS100 software I can communicate with my HI 1746WS module using the DF1 connection, but when I switch to the Ethernet connection the HI WS100 software locks up. Are there any specific RSLinx/Processor settings I need to change?

Answer

There are no special settings for RSLinx that would cause your HI WS100 software to stop working. You do need to make sure the proper RSLinx driver is being used on the Comm Setup page of HI WS100 software. Once that selection is made you need to close the HI WS100 software and open it up again so it uses the new selection.

You should also double check your processor node addresses to insure it matches what you are setting in the HI WS100 software as the station number. We did some testing and found that when the unit was online with the SLC using a serial connection, the processor node address was 1, and this is what we set in the HI WS100 software as the station number.

When we switched over to an Ethernet driver to the SLC, the node address was changed to 2. So we changed the station number in the HI WS100 software to 2 along with the driver change and saved the changes. Then closed HI WS100 and opened it up again (need to do this with changes on Comm Setup screen before it uses new settings) and the connection was made without any problems.

One other possible cause for problem is the traffic on the Ethernet network.  If you have a lot of traffic on the network, then there could be too long of a delay between the software and the module, so it will timeout.
