Why do I get an ERREXC when swapping SMM?

Last updated 02/03/2014 02:24 AM

Question

When I have a failed or suspected bad HI 2151/30WC, I swap out the unit to help isolate the problem. I do this by installing the current SMM into the replacement HI 2151/30WC. Then all the configuration and calibration information is supposed to be transferred. This should make for a fast and efficient transfer, but the problem is I am getting an ERREXC error displayed. Why do I get an ERREXC when swapping SMM?

Answer

If you are getting an ERREXC message when swapping units and using the same SMM, then there is a difference of current or excitation voltage between the two units. This can happen if, when the replacement unit was last calibrated, it used a different load cell cable run or load cell model. The fix is to re-calibrate the scale system. When the Zero or Ref point is set, the scale displays WAIT. During this wait time, the current and voltages for the system are being recorded for the excitation monitor.

When using C2® calibration, it is easy to re-establish this information. Just C2® calibrate with the correct reference point information.

If you are using our traditional hard calibration method, this can be an inconvenient task. You cannot set the ZERO reference point in hard calibration without establishing a SPAN value.

A temporary fix would be as follows:

Enter INTEGRATED TECHNICIAN®, using the instruction found in the HI 2151/30WC manual, pages 8-4, and take the excitation monitor offline until you have an opportunity to re-calibrate the system. Then re-enter INTEGRATED TECHNICIAN® and put excitation monitor back online.

Verify the system is operational and weighing correctly before you give the scale back to production.
