Why can't I Auto-Update my HI 3000 or HI 4000 series firmware?

Last updated 05/12/2014 10:32 AM

Question

When I try to do an update of the firmware in my HI 3000 or HI 4000 series unit, the update fails. The program will allow me to enter the IP address of the unit or browse for the IP address OK, and it also allows me to browse for the update file and selects it. Then when I click on the "update" button, the program fails. What could be the cause of this?

Answer

When updating the firmware in the HI 3000 series units (which includes the HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 3300 and HI 3600) or the HI 4000 series units, (which include the HI 4050 and HI 4060) and the Auto-update program fails to complete, the most likely problem is the length of the path to the firmware update file (the *_APP.s19 file). If the length of the path, i.e.: C:\directory name\second directory name\...\*_APP.s19, is longer than 64 characters, then the program will fail. Move the *_APP.s19 file to a directory closer to the root directory, C:\, and try again.

The attached file gives instructions for updating the firmware version on the units.  This procedure will work for all 4000 and 3000 series units.  Be sure to use the approprient file for your model unit.
