Why am I losing cal data but not getting a TGERR on my HI 2151/20WC?

Last updated 02/03/2014 02:27 AM

Question

I do not get a TGERR on my HI 2151/20WC display but still lose parameter settings and/or calibration data. I do not receive this message even though the units have a SMM 1205 with firmware 0650-0069. Is the battery inside the SMM unit weak?

Answer

If the HI 2151/20WC unit uses the SMM 1205 module, then there are normally only two reasons for loosing calibration after a power cycle.

1. The SMM does have an internal battery that can get weak. Normally you would not see a weak battery causing this problem without getting the TGERR at power up. This message can be missed at power up as it is only on the display for about 1 sec at the time power is applied. You can simulate this error by removing the SMM and powering up the unit without it.

2. The second reason for a unit loosing calibration would be if it was having the memory cleared. Check to see if switch S2-8 is turned on. If this switch is on, it will cause the unit to not load the calibration on power up and will also not display the TGERR.

If the unit loses memory at a power cycle and neither the above conditions apply, please see notice below.

NOTICE: The HI 2151/20WC was discontinued in 2001 when many components became obsolete, including the Secure Memory Module (SMM). The HI 2151/20WC SMM incorporated the use of a built in battery to store memory during power loss, and the shelf life is 7 years. Once your SMM battery dies and you experience a power loss, you will lose your configuration data and we do not have a replacement available.

We highly recommended you replace your HI 2151/20WC with a current Hardy Process Solutions controller before that happens.

Please contact your Local Hardy Rep to review your application requirements and determine which current model from Hardy Process Solutions is right for you.
