When welding near load cells, what precautions need to be followed?

Last updated 07/29/2015 10:32 AM

Question

What precautions need followed when welding on vessels with load cells?

Answer

Even though load cells look like a robust solid piece of metal, they are actually sensitive electronic devices and are easily damaged, especially when welding near the load cells occurs as normal current levels for load cells is very low compared to welding current levels.

If the load cells cannot be removed, take precautions outlined in the attached tech note to minimize possible damage when welding near load cells. The load cell warranty does not cover any damage that might occur to the load cell if they are left in place when welding nearby.
