New HIDS Drum Scales!
Click Here to Learn More!Your application will dictate if you use NET or GROSS weight readings using your weight controller.
Using the ZERO function sets the current weight as a new Gross ZERO reference point. The ZERO function will only ZERO up to the Zero Tolerance Value specified in the unit setup. You can ZERO the instrument as many times as desired, just as long as the cumulative total does not exceed the Zero Tolerance Value. When the Zero Tolerance Value is exceeded, an Error message will be displayed during each attempt to ZERO the Gross weight. To clear the Error message, you will need to clean your tank in order to remove the accumulated build-up (or you may want to increase your Zero Tolerance Value).
The NET weight is made to equal ZERO by using the TARE function. This will produce a NET ZERO display every time it is used just as long as the instrument is not in Motion (another tolerance setting). The TARE is used to offset product on the scale to produce a NET ZERO reading for the operator.
The Tare function places the current gross weight value into the tare weight register. The Net weight is calculated as the 'current gross weight minus the current tare weight = current Net weight. Since at the time of the tare command, the current gross and the current tare weight are equal, the Net weight goes to 0 (zero).
The ZERO function is used only when the scale is empty and is not at GROSS ZERO due to material build up. This is to be used to offset small amounts of product buildup on the scale.
The Tare function is used when you only wish to see a current change in weight, not the entire amount of weight that is on the scale. Example: You are adding multiple ingredients to the scale and wish to only see the amount of the current ingredient. Tare the net weight and add the ingredient. The net weight shows only the amount of the current ingredient. The gross weight will show the total weight that is on the scale.
