Click Here to Learn More! The HI 2160, HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 6310, and HI 6300 controllers have three levels of security, which are low, medium, and high.
The HI 4050 and HI 4060 has the same three level capability and you can also place $ and $$ in the parameter dump in front of an individual parameter entry and that parameter is secure. $ = medium and $$ = high security to provide customized security setups.

Low is the default level, medium and high require a password verification.
On the 3000 series units, password verification is conducted when you change the user name. When you leave an instrument and have signed on with an upper level password, you should sign off by changing the user initials and an invalid password code. Cycling power will also change the password level back to low level access.
On all other units, when you exit the menu level that is password protected, it will remove the password access and return to the low level access.
These three levels can be applied to the following areas: The selections will vary between controller models.

By assigning a security level other than Low you can control who may perform a function. You may want the Start capability controlled to insure only authorized personnel operate certain equipment. You may require a supervisor level to clear any alarms.
If your controller is a model not listed above, you have no security capabilities. Exception is the calibration security for the HI 2151/30WC. A fixed security code more of a courtesy security and not changeable. That password is in the HI2151/30WC manual.
