What does load cell non-linearity mean?

Last updated 06/23/2015 10:35 AM

Question

What is the non-linearity specification for load cells? Where can I find the specifications for my Hardy load cells?

Answer

Non-Linearity specifies the maximum deviation plus or minus of the calibration curve from a straight line drawn between the zero and rated load outputs, expressed as a percentage of the rated output (%RO) and measured on the increasing load only.

This specification is important to applications where the scale is empty, product is added to a target weight and discharged. Application accuracy when weighing in one direction uses the load cells non-linearity specification.

Specifications for your Hardy Process Solutions load points are available online at www.hardysolutions.com. On the Products tab, locate your style load cells and on its product page click on the Specifications tab or under Docs and Programs you should find a datasheet for that type of load cells.

If you already have a Hardy load cell and are looking for its certification sheet, on the Hardy web site, hardysolutions.com, hover over "Support Center" tab and then click on "Online Certificate Tool".  Enter your load cell serial number to get the certification that lists the specifications for your load cell.  Starting the first of 2008 all the load cells Advantage and Non-Advantage load sensors are included in the data base.

If you wish to try the Online Certificate Tool use the sample serial number 757382.

When it comes to accuracy it is explained in additional web tech answers.  Enter the search term "accuracy" and choose the product category "all". Browse for answers that may answer any additional questions about accuracy you may have.
