What does "err 42" mean when I try to perform a C2® calibration?

Last updated 10/13/2014 10:37 AM

Question

When I use C2® calibration on my HI 2110WI or my HI 2151/30WC and try to enter the reference point, an "err 42" appears in the display and I can't calibrate the system. What does "err 42" mean when I try to perform a C2® calibration?

Answer

On the HI 2151/30WC or the HI 2110WI, error 42 means your load cell signal is out of range (0 to +15 millivolts). Check your load cell wiring for shorts, opens or incorrect connection points.

The typical cause for this error is load cell wiring.  As an example, if you have the + excitation and the + signal wires crossed the signal voltage will read + 2.5vdc.  This is a sign of wiring errors not a bad load cell.  Bad load cells will typically output 0 or  in excess of (+ or -) 15 mvdc signal output.
