What are the pros and cons of load cells with different input resistances?

Last updated 09/22/2020 09:47 AM

Question

I would like to know the pros and cons of using a load cell with around a 350 ohm load cell input resistance OR a load cell with around a 1100 ohm input resistance?

Answer

A lower resistance value will reduce thermal noise in the gauges which will help deliver a more stable weight reading on scales that are configured for a higher resolution. However it will requires a higher excitation current to power it which in most cases is OK, but could be bad for battery powered devices like Intrinsically Safe scales especially those that do not have an auto shut off feature.
