Using Profibus, how do blocks get mapped into Siemens PLC?

Last updated 11/11/2014 09:06 AM

Question

Using the HI 2151/30 unit, How do Hardy Blocks get mapped into Siemens addresses using Step 7 and Hardy GSD file (i.e. Hardy 32W I/O, 16 W blocks; 16W I/O, 8W blocks)? Siemen's allocates addresses based on Hardy I/O selection above; how do these addresses map into Hardy blocks?

Answer

The configuration chosen, 32W I/O 16 W blocks or 16 W I/O 8W blocks etc., determines the maximum length of the read/write communication to the unit. Example: you cannot set the unit up as 16 W I/O and then try to read 20 words.

When you do a block transfer, the data will start in the first word of the mapped addresses for the unit and continue for the requested number of words for that block. Example: the unit is set up as 16 Words I/O and these are mapped into PQW256 - PQW287 and PIW256 - PIW287.

Any writes you do to the unit would start in PQW256. Data read back from the unit would start in PIW256.

Attached is a file set up for a HI 2151/30WC that may get you started. You can also use this file as an example for the HI 2110WI or the HI 2160RC.
