Question

How does the security feature work on the HI 3000 and HI 4000 series units?

Answer

There are three security settings for the HI 3000 series (which includes the HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 3300 and the HI 3600) and HI 4000 series (which includes the HI 4050 and HI 4060) units.  These are; None, Medium, and High.  You can set the passwords for the Medium and High security.  Once you have a security password set, you can set the security level for some fields.  This would then require the user to enter in at a security level  code equal to or higher than required for the desired field, in order to change or in some cases have access to that field.

Example:  If you have the medium and high security passwords set up, and set the Web Page Security to medium, anyone trying to access the web pages will be asked for a security password.  They could enter in either the medium or high password to access the pages, but without the password, they would not have the access to the web pages.  This would work the same way for the other items you listed to have a security level assigned to it.

In the HI 4050 and HI 4060 Operations Manual it explains about assigning a security level to specific parameters in the parameter dump.  This will then allow you to specify particular parameters to be blocked unless the proper security password is entered to allow access to that parameter to change it.
