How does the ON-OFF menu selection for communications function?

On the HI 3010 or HI 3030, what does the ON-OFF menu selection for communications options do? 

Under the OPTION menu for communications ON enables any mapped communicates.  The default is OFF and mapping is disabled.

The HI 3010 and HI 3030 connections to and from the web browser cannot be disabled.
NOTE: If you want to isolate the mapped commands to and from the instrument for troubleshooting reasons, turn the optional communications OFF. You can still use the browser and turn that option back-on.
