How do I get readings using DeviceNet on a HI 3000 or HI 4000 series unit?

Last updated 08/04/2014 03:49 AM

Question

What are the basic steps required to get weight readings using DeviceNet communications on a HI 3000 or HI 4000 series unit?

Answer

To get readings using DeviceNet communications on your HI 3000 series unit (which includes the HI 3010, and HI 3030) or your HI 4000 series (which include the HI 4050 & HI 4060), perform the following:

1. Set Baud rate, input and output word lengths, and Node address in the  unit.

In the DeviceNet configuration software:

1. Browse the network for all devices.

2. Select the properties of the unit, and set the polled input and output lengths to match those selected in the options configuration menu.

3. Map the input and output bytes into the input and output tables of the unit (*3000 units only).

4. Select the properties of the scanner module and add the unit to the scan list.

5. Map the input and output bytes into the input and output tables of the scanner.

*The HI 3000 series is set as a master and you would need to turn slave mode on and then do all the set up and mapping.  The HI 4000 series is set as a slave and cannot be selected as a master.  This means it will automatically set up the i/o bytes in the units input and output tables.

The terms "Master" and "Slave" are correct DeviceNet terms per OVDA protocol. Hardy does not mean to offend any of our customers when using those words, but we will continue to use them as they are the current terms.  The use of client and server result in the same connotation.  As terms are re-defined Hardy Process Solutions will endeavor to make corrections.

Enter the units' web browser, configuration and mapping selections and map desired data and functions to and from the DeviceNet tables.

This is a brief note on setting the DeviceNet module active in DeviceNet configuration software. For more detailed information please review the latest manual that you can download at:
