How do I eliminate the effects of in-plant vibration on my process weighing system?

Last updated 08/27/2014 09:31 AM

Question

I have a vibratory feeder located near my process weighing system that turns on and off as needed. I need to get a stable weight reading every 10-20 seconds, but with the feeder turning on or off at random what can be used to eliminate this process variable? WAVERSAVER? Sample rate? How do I eliminate the effects of in-plant vibration on my system?

Answer

WAVERSAVER® does not reduce the actual vibration.

But to reduce or ignore the effects of in-plant vibration on your process weighing system, set WAVERSAVER® to cover the vibration/frequency range you predict will occur during the vibratory feeder phase. With selections of 0.25hz to 7.5hz, vibration will be ignored.  For example; when 7.5hz is selected any frequency higher than 7.5hz will be ignored. Monitor the weight reading and set WAVERSAVER® to the lowest acceptable value to speed up your process by eliminating the effects of vibration. The time required to calculate the WAVERSAVER® signal ranges from 70 milliseconds at 7.5hz to 2.5 seconds at 0.25hz.

Due the nature of the application, WAVERSAVER selection in the HI 4060  is limited to three.  15hz of liquid rate control, 1.00 Hz for low vibration and belt and vibratory feeder control, 0.50hz for high impact vibration and auger feeder control.

You can also adjust your AVERAGES setting to minimize bumps and material impacting on the scale. Normally 5 averages are enough to clear small bumps and product impacting events. AVERAGES will cost you one update for each AVERAGE configured. (50 ms x 10 averages = 500 ms).

The update rate is different depending on which model Hardy controller you have. See related answers.
