How do I calculate the system total full scale output sensitivity?

Question

How do I calculate my weighing system total full scale output sensitivity?

Answer

The overall system sensitivity for multiple load cells is the average of the output of all load cells at the rated load.

For our example we will calculate overall sensitivity for a system with four load cells:

Load Cell#1 = 2.0001
Load Cell#2 = 1.9999
Load Cell#3 = 2.0009
Load Cell#4 = 1.9987

Add all load cells "rated full scale output" numbers together, then divide by the number of load cells to get the average. In this example the sensitivity would be equal to 1.9999 (2.0001 + 1.999 + 2.009 + 1.9987 = 1.9999). This number would be entered in the sensitivity menu selection and the range is the total of the load cell capacities. So if all four load cells are 100 lbs, then the total capacity would be 400 lbs (100lbs X 4 = 400 lbs). This calculation works for any number of load cells. All capacities must be the same.

If you do not know your load cell sensitivity, contact the manufacturer of your load cell and request the certification. If you are using Hardy load cells, go to www.hardysolutions.com and click on "Support Center" then click on "Online Certification Tool" and enter the serial number of your load cell to get a certification you can print.
