Question

How can I perform a remote tare on my HI 4050?

Answer

The HI 4050 has three digital input terminals available for use. Applying a ground to the terminal will trigger the input. You can connect a switch to ground and one of the remote inputs and map the tare function. A remote tare button would be mapped as follows:

HO2.0(Tare Command) = +HI0.4(User Switch 1)
HO2.0=+HI0.4 (you can copy this command into the mapping box on the mapping page and click on map. The input will perform a system TARE when the contact is made.)

The explanation is below:
The mapping screen is accessed via the web browser into the EtherNet TCP/IP port using the correct IP address setup. Under configuration and mapping, select the TARE command as the Destination and the User input number 1 as the Source. Click on map and you are ready.

The connection to the User input needs to be short and on a shielded, twisted pair cable. Normally you install a relay near the back of your HI 4050 (within 60 inches). Then have your remote push button activate the relay to close a contact to make at the Ground to terminal 1 connection on the back of your HI 4050.

You can also perform a remote tare by mapping the Tare function to one of the communications inputs.  Which you would use would depend on what communications option you have in the unit and what other mapping you have.  You would need to map the tare command (HO2.0) to any communications input.  Once mapped, it would work as described above.  User would turn on a bit in the PLC, which would then transfer to the unit and turn on HO2.0.  This would then trigger the tare command.

Another  way to perform a remote tare would only work if you had the space on the operator control box. The front display can be made into a remote display up to 100' using common RS232, 6 wire cable. Use the terminal connector on the keypad board and the terminals on the back of the HI 4050. This would give you all the controls and display at the operators control.
