Does my HI 2151/20WC use a battery or SMM?

Last updated 04/14/2014 11:11 AM

Question

How can I tell if my HI 2151/20WC unit needs a battery replacement or if it needs a Secure Memory Module (SMM) instead?

Answer

To determine if your HI 2151/20WC needs a battery or a Secure Memory Module (SMM) you would enter into the self-test mode and check the firmware version for your unit. When you enter the self-test mode the unit will scroll through screens at the rate of one per second. The first screen that shows up will read "0650-", the second screen will read "00xx", where xx is the version number of the firmware. If this value is "56" or lower, then your unit uses a battery. If this value is "58" or higher, then it would need the SMM (with built-in battery included) (See Notice below).

NOTICE: The HI 2151/20WC was discontinued in 2001 when many components became obsolete, including the Secure Memory Module (SMM). The HI 2151/20WC SMM incorporates the use of a built in battery to store memory during power loss, and the shelf life is 7 years. Once your SMM battery dies and you experience a power loss, you will lose your configuration data and we do not have a replacement available. We highly recommended you replace your HI 2151/20WC with one of Hardy's current weight controllers before that happens. Please contact your Local Hardy Rep to review your application requirements and determine which Hardy weight controller is right for you.
