Does my HI 2151/20WC use a battery or SMM?

To determine if your HI 2151/20WC needs a battery or a Secure Memory Module (SMM) you would enter into the self-test mode and check the firmware version for your unit. When you enter the self-test mode the unit will scroll through screens at the rate of one per second. The first screen that shows up will read "0650-", the second screen will read "00xx", where xx is the version number of the firmware. If this value is "56" or lower, then your unit uses a battery. If this value is "58" or higher, then it would need the SMM (with built-in battery included) (See Notice below).

NOTICE: The HI 2151/20WC was discontinued in 2001 when many components became obsolete, including the Secure Memory Module (SMM). The HI 2151/20WC SMM incorporates the use of a built in battery to store memory during power loss, and the shelf life is 7 years. Once your SMM battery dies and you experience a power loss, you will lose your configuration data and we do not have a replacement available. We highly recommended you replace your HI 2151/20WC with one of Hardy's current weight controllers before that happens.
