Does HI 3000 series Ethernet I/P communication require an additional option board?

Last updated 10/13/2014 10:50 AM

Question

Is Ethernet I/P communication done by the Ethernet TCP/IP port on my HI 3000 series instrument by default, or do I need a board interface located in one of the option slots for the controller?

Answer

The HI 3000 series controllers include the HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 3300 and the HI 3600. The Ethernet IP communications is through an additional option board installed into the unit. This is different than the built-in, standard, TCP/IP connection that is used to go online with the unit's browser. These two ports are not interchangeable and require two different IP addresses.

The difference is the TCP/IP is a web server type protocol used to setup, diagnose, and calibrate the controller. The Ethernet I/P is an industrial protocol used to capture and transfer commands and data in application environments.
