Can my Hardy unit communicate using EIP to an SLC processor?

Last updated 04/27/2015 10:54 AM

Question

Can the Hardy 3000 or 4000 unit communicate with the SLC processor over EIP?

Answer

The Ethernet IP communications is a client/server form of communication. You would normally need to have both a client device and a server device.

EIP is a new addition to the communication between the SLC and the Hardy 3000 series units (which include the HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 3300, and HI 3600).  Attached is an application note explaining how this communications is done.
Also attached is an application note explaining how to connect to the MicroLogix 1100 processor.

The HI 4000 series units (which include the HI 4050 and HI 4060) are recognized as a server device. However, the manufactures of the Ethernet stack (used in the HI 4000 series) developed a method of communications with at least some other server devices. This communication does require logic in the processor to set up and run the communications. We do not have a list of server devices that can communicate with the HI 4000 series controllers using EIP, but we have verified communcations with the SLC, and have had customers notify us that they could communicate with the Micro Logix 1400 and 1100.

Attached to this WebTech answer is a technote and example ladder logic to accomplish this communication.  We also have a document from a customer (posted with permission) showing how to get communications with the MicroLogix 1400 or 1100 processors.
