Can my Hardy Instrument operate as a counting machine?

Question

Can my Hardy Instrument be converted into a counting machine?

Answer

Any of the Hardy weight controllers can be used to count identical items. The key to converting your Hardy controller into a counting scale is the calibration. Configure your instrument with no decimal points.  You will be counting in whole parts.

For example, if you want to count washers:

1. Perform a cal low command using traditional calibration with your scale empty.
2. Then place a known number of washers (or whatever you want to count) on the scale.
3. For the Span weight enter the number of objects you just placed on the scale. For example, if you placed 25 washers on the scale, then the Span is 25.
4. Do the cal high and exit the calibration program properly.

The weight reading should say 25 now, and as you add and remove washers the number will change accordingly.

Obviously this will not work when the objects you want to count are not equal in weight. Using dirty, used, or damaged objects might cause the counts to be in error as well.

The HI 6000 series controllers have a calibration especially for calibration for counts. This is in the OPERATIONS menu and you can calibrate by knowing the single count weight or placing a know amount of pieces to be counted on the scale.
