Question

Can I turn off WAVERSAVER® in my Hardy controller?

Answer

WAVERSAVER® can be turned off in the HI 1756FC, HI 1769WS, HI 3000 series (which includes the HI 3010, HI3300, and HI 3030), HI 4000 series (which includes the HI 4050 and HI 4060), HI 200DNWM DeviceNet module, the HI 2080, and the HI 6000 series of units (which include the HI 6300, HI 6310, HI 6500, HI 6510, & HI 6600).

WAVERSAVER® cannot be turned off in the HI 1756WS, HI 1756-2WS, HI 1746WS, HI 1771WS, HI 2151/30WC and the HI 2110WI.

WAVERSAVER® is a combination of software and hardware which allows load cell signals to pass, while it attenuate noisy signals. The primary advantage of the WAVERSAVER® technique is the ability to perform this function without changing filter settings for each application.

WAVERSAVER® enables your Hardy weight controller to distinguish between actual weight data and mechanical noise, both of which are typically transferred to the weight controller by the load cell signal. WAVERSAVER® can be configured from the front panel to ignore noise with frequencies as low as 0.25 Hz. Higher additional cut off frequencies may be selected to provide a faster instrument response time.

The WAVERSAVER® program is independent of the update rate (Averaging). The HI 2151/30WC is rated at 20 updates per second. That is the number of weight readings that are available for communications every second, whether the weight has changed or not. This would be once every 50 ms. The HI 3000 series instruments (which includes the HI 3010,  and the HI 3030) have 55 updates per second and make communications updates available every 18.18ms, and the HI 4050 has 100 updates per second.

To determine which WAVERSAVER® setting is right for your application you need to keep in mind that the lower the vibration your scale is exposed to, the higher the minimal weighing time should be. Use WAVERSAVER® settings 1-3 to reduce the effects of low amplitude high frequency vibrations. Use WAVERSAVER® settings 3-5 selections to reduce the effects of high amplitude low frequency vibrations.
