Can I transfer a calibration between HI 1771WS modules?

Last updated 10/14/2014 10:08 AM

Question

I have a 1771-WS module in a PLC-5 rack that is working ok..  I want to replace this card with my spare card that has never been calibrated.  Is there a way I can use the calibration of the card installed and transfer it to the spare one with out having to do a new calibration?

In the calibration menu, there is the "Restore" calibration option. How does this restore work?

Answer

If you have an HI 1771WS module that is already set up and calibrated, and you want to exchange it for a different module but do not want to have to go through a new calibration, you can gather the information from the original module and write it into the new module. To do this, you need to read the data from the first module, specifically, words 14-24.  These words are your calibration weight points and calibration volts for these points.

Once you have this information, you would power down the PLC rack and replace the HI 1771WS module with the new module. Enter the information on the calibration points collected from the old module into the write data block for the new module.  Verify the data is entered into the correct locations as the locations are not in the same order from the read block to the write block.

Once you have the data entered, write the data to the new module, then trigger the restore calibration bit.  This will cause the module to write the calibration data to its memory, thus setting all its calibration points to what was read from the original module. You now have the calibration points in the new module.  You would want to do a save command to ensure it is saved to non-volatile memory.
