Are Hardy Load Cells FM Approved?

Last updated 11/07/2018 12:40 AM

Question

Do Hardy Load Cells have FM (Factory Mutual) Intrinsic Safety Approval? If so, how are they installed in a hazardous area requiring FM approval?

Answer

The following Hardy Load Cell Models normally have the C2® chip internal and are FM approved:

ADVANTAGE® & ADVANTAGE® Lite Cells
Load Cell Load Point Type, Mount Type, or Scale Type
HI HBB01 HIONELP & Footed Load Cell Mount
HI HBB06 HILPB Load Point
HI RCH03 HILPRC03 Load Point
HI RCH04 HILPRC03 Load Point
HI SB02 HILPRE
HI SB05 HIONELP, HILPRE05, & HIMSBRE
HI SBH04 HIONELP, HIHLPRE04, HIMSBRE, & HIHLPS
HI SBHF14 Cells for HIFS Floor Scales & Footed Load Cell Mount
HI STH01 HIHLPT Load Point
HI STH06 HIHLPT Load Point

Single Point Cells
Load Cell Load Point Type, Mount Type, or Scale Type
HI SP1 HIPS Bench Scale
HI SP6           No Mount
HI SPA22 No Mount
HI SPA42 No Mount
HI SPA60 No Mount
HI SPB1 HIBS400 Bench Scale

Non Advantage Hardy load cells that are not FM approved need to be ordered with a "Specials" designation. All Hardy load cells ordered with the Specials designation will retain their original label, model number, serial number, and have a FM approval sticker.

The C2® data chip is NOT approved for use in hazardous areas unless it is internal to the load cell, encapsulated as a module, or is in a "Special" Load Cell. At that time, a C2® module will be made with the serial number of the load cell. This module is attached to the C2+ and C2- of the controller load cell connector. Certificates are kept on file in the Support Center Online "C2® Load Sensor Certification Retrieval Tool" at Hardy Process Solutions.
