Why doesn't my HI 1746WS Comm LED come on?

Last updated 04-07-2014 10:06

Question

Upon installation of my HI 1746WS I have a steady green Fault LED, steady green C2 LED, but no Comm LED at all. Why is there no Comm LED lit? If I run the sample ladder logic, the sequence number incremented from 1 to 7 in the set parameter ladder, so I believe it is running.

Answer

NOTE:  If you have the module installed in a remote chassis, you will only get the green Comm LED when you send a block transfer command to the module.  So you will see a single flash with each block transfer, otherwise it will be off.

If you are installed in the local chassis and do not have a flashing green Comm LED, it normally indicates that you do not have communications between the HI 1746WS module and the SLC processor.

But, since you have run the software and are getting an incrementing sequence number with the running of the commands, this indicates that communications is OK.  That would usually mean that the module is working, but the LED is bad.  If this is the case, when it is convenient, send the module back to the factory for evaluation and repair.  When you are ready to do this, you can request a Return Authorization number by going to our web site at Hardy Solutions/repair forms.

Please remember that the two year warranty begins with the original ship date. Don't wait too long to return this instrument if you want it repaired under warranty!
