Why are 127 words too large for the HI 3000 series ControlNet configuration?

Last updated 08-04-2014 03:44

Question

I am using a HI 3000 series instrument. When entering the size parameter under ControlNet configuration it says size: 127 is to large. Why?

Answer

For the HI 3000 series (which includes the HI 3010, HI 3030, HI 3300 and the HI 3600), the setup for communications must be integer (INT) and not double integer (DINT). DINT is the default and must be changed or you are sending double words and exceeding the 127 integer word limit.

Below are re-printed directions from the HI 3000 Installation manual. This manual is available from our web page www.hardysolutions.com 3030 products page", then click on "Docs & Programs" and click on the manual. Go to Installation and Operation and look in the section under Network Installation.

ControlNet Network Setup:

RSLogix Setup for HI 3000 Series Instruments with ControlNet Option Card

Step 1. From your computer desktop double click on the RSLogix Icon.
Step 2. Click on I/O Configuration/Add New Module
Step 3. Click on Generic ControlNet Module
Step 4. Add the following Information:

• Name - Choose a unique name for the HI 3000 Series module.
• Description - Type in a short description of the module.
• Comm Format - Select Data - INT
• Node - Select the ControlNet node number for the HI 3000 Series module.
• Input: Assembly Instance: 100 Size: 127 INT

NOTE: The actual data from the module will always start with word 2 (the third word) of the data. There are still 125 words but we have adjusted for the first two words, which are not available.

• Output: Assembly Instance: 150  Size: 125
• Configuration: Assembly Instance: 1  Size: 0
