The Gross weight is the total amount of weight that has been added to the scale since calibration. Scale calibration establishes the Gross zero reference point.
The Net weight is the amount of weight added to the scale since the last "TARE" command was done. Doing a "TARE" command will cause the Net weight to equal zero.
A typical application would be if you had a calibrated scale and were filling containers. Each container may weight a little different. You would place a container on the scale and "TARE" the scale. This will cause the Net weight to go to zero (does not effect the Gross weight). Now as you fill the container, the Net weight is only the weight of the product. The Gross weight is the weight of the product plus the container.
