What are the power requirements for the HI 3000 series?

Last updated 10-14-2014 09:51

Question

What are the power requirements for the HI 3010,  or the HI 3030?

Answer

This answer does not apply to the HI 3600 unit.
Power and Utility Requirements for most the HI 3000 series, which include the HI 3010, and the HI 3030 are:

Voltage - Universal Power Supply (50/60 Hz)
• 120-240 VAC ± 10% at 47-63 Hz.
• 12 - 24 VDC

(Can be powered by either AC or DC voltage)
DO NOT USE BOTH AC AND DC POWER SOURCES. If you are connected to a DeviceNet network and AC power, and the DeviceNet 24vdc power supply dropped offline, the HI 3000 series unit would be the sole source of 24vdc and that current draw could damage the unit.

Total Power:
• 25 Watts maximum, with option slots full.

Watts available for DeviceNet Power:
• 15 Watts

Common Mode Voltage Range
• ± 2.5 VDC

Common Mode Rejection:
• 100 dB @ 50-60 Hz

CAUTION: INSTRUMENT POWER AND RELAY WIRES SHOULD BE ROUTED AWAY FROM ALL OTHER SIGNAL CABLES TO AVOID ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE.

• All cabling should be neatly bundled, tied, and dressed.
• Use a 6 inch plus service bend to relieve stress on the connectors and to ease servicing the unit.
• Make sure that all plugs are firmly in place.
• Be sure to secure the power cord with the two (2) captive screw-on clips.
• All connections are made at the rear panel of the Weight Controller.

-DC Power Wiring
WARNING: DO NOT OPERATE WITH INCORRECT LINE VOLTAGE. TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN PROPERTY DAMAGE AND/OR PERSONAL INJURY. MAKE SURE THAT THE POWER SOURCE DOES NOT EXCEED 30 VDC.

A “clean” primary line, directly from the DC power source, should supply the DC power.

DC POWER SUPPLY CONNECTION
Install an earth ground wire into the Ground connections to insure a good common ground plane.

Step 1. Connect your positive and negative DC voltage lines to the Phoenix connector that plugs into the DeviceNet Connector. V+ and V- are written on the back panel. (See Fig. 3-15, HI 3030 Technical manual installation section.)

Step 2. Plug the connector into the DeviceNet Connector at the rear panel.

NOTE: Use DC power source when you have the –DC option and do not have the DeviceNet Option.
The DeviceNet networks provide the DC power source.
With no DeviceNet network, you will require a DC power source.
