Is there a relay option for the HI 2151/30WC?

Last updated 07-29-2015 10:32

Question

We would like to use relays with our HI 2151/30WC. There is a J4 Opt Relays female port, but no male connector. Can we use those relays or do we have to purchase a relay option? What part number should we order? Does it require a new secure memory module (SMM)? How do we install it?

Answer

The J4 Opt Relays connector is for the D1 or D2 extra relay option. In order for you to get output from this connector, you would need to order one of the "D" options described below. Please contact the Hardy Service Center at 800-821-5831 phone menu selection   #1
(or email hsc@hardysolutions.com) for additional information, including pricing and availability for all options.

There are two relay options for the HI 2151/30WC.
The D1 kit includes a new Secure Memory Module (SMM) and enables 6 TTL relay outputs.
The D2 kit will give you a SMM, a 60 inch cable with connectors, and the 6 solid state relays mounted on a driver board.
If you order a HI 2151/30WC-WS-D2  wall mounted system, you will get the D2 option with a 6 inch cable.

To add the relays in the field after the initial order, the part numbers are as follows:

(There is no Extra Relays option for a 240 vac system.)

The part number for the D1 Extra Relays option for a 110 vac system is HI 2151/30XX-D1
The part number for the D2 Extra Relays option for a 110 vac system is HI 2151/30XX-D2
The part number for the WS-D2 Extra Relay option for a 110 vac system is HI 2151/30XX-WS-D2  (This replaced the D3 option)

The D1 or D2 option information is as follows.

D1 - Six TTL Level Outputs
Rating - 300 ma per line
Cable Length - 5 feet (1.52 meters)
NO physical relays are included.
Only the software is included in the Secure Memory Module (SMM) and J4 cable, to be attached to the customer provided relay driver. This option will not directly drive relay coils.

D2  - Option comes with a 60 inch cable and 6 external solid state relays. WS-D2 option comes with a 6 inch cable for use in the wall mount (WS) units and 6 external solid state relays.

D2 Relay Rating
115 VAC, 3 Amperes Continuous
115 VAC, 5 Amperes Momentary
Mounted on a board with Dimensions
5.7"L x 2.5"W (144.78mmL x 88.9mmW)

Both of these options are enabled within the unit by programming of the Secure Memory Module. This enabling cannot be done in the field, but rather must be done in the factory. If you purchase one of these options, then the factory will program a new Secure Memory Module for your unit and include the new SMM with the option you ordered. You would then swap the original Secure Memory Module with the new one and the option would then be enabled.
NOTE:  You may have additional options that were ordered with the original equipment order.  Make a list to include any of these options.  Under the self test menu a parameter display called TAG1 and TAG2 will each have a number.  Standard to TAG1=09 and TAG2=00.  Review these two tag numbers and include these in your order.  This will insure you will retain your existing options as well as adding the new.

Once you receive your option you will need to install it. Here are some installation guidelines:

The cable plugs into the back of the HI 2151/30WC and the relay board, and the new SMM replaces the existing SMM. Installing a new SMM requires you to re-setup the controller as if it was a new installation. You can verify the relays are enabled by entering the Set point menu and press the down arrow. You should see relay 1 thru 8.
