How do I setup Profibus on my HI 4000?

Last updated 02-04-2015 10:43

Question

I just purchased a new HI 4000 series unit and am not familiar with using Hardy Instruments. How do I setup Profibus on my HI 4000?

Answer

Setting up Profibus in the HI 4000 series, which include the HI 4050 and HI 4060, requires setting the Profibus node address and mapping the desired data into the table. To set the node address, press the Enter key, down arrow to options, then enter, then down arrow to Profibus and press enter again.  The node address will be displayed.  If this is not the node address desired, press the clear key and the up arrow & left arrow keys to enter the address you want.  Once you have the correct address, press the enter key, then the exit key until you have exited completely out of the menu.  Cycle power on the unit to use the new address.

To do the mapping in the unit you will need to go online with the unit through the TCP/IP ethernet connection.

Steps for setting the I/P address are:
1. Press the enter key
2. Down arrow to "Instrument Setup"
3. Press the enter key
4. Up arrow to "Ethernet"
5. Press the enter key
6. Make necessary changes to the IP address
7. Press the enter key
8. Press exit key repeatedly until back to normal display screen

NOTE: The unit will need to be powered off and back on to utilize the new IP address. Once the I/P address is set, you will need to go online using the HI 4000 browser, through the TCP/IP connection, and do the necessary mapping of data to transfer over the Profibus network.

If your unit is a "blind" unit (a unit without a keypad or display), the IP address needs to be changed using the "IP Setup" program. This program allows you to view the units on the network and make changes to the Ethernet setup. You will need to cycle power after you make any changes. This program can be found on our web site on the HI 4050  products page under the "Docs and Programs".

Once you have the IP address set, go online with the unit through your Windows explorer, or other similar program.  Once online with the unit, you would go to the mapping page and map the desired data to the Profibus output table.  For more information about mapping, see associated questions or search on keyword "map".
