How do I establish comm's with a Siemens S7-314 processor?

Last updated 01-26-2016 04:07

Question

How do I establish communications between my Siemens S7 processor and my HI 2151/30WC or HI 2110WI?

Answer

Other Hardy Customers that were having this problem provided the following feedback they received from Siemens Technical Support:

Communication problems can occur with systems using the S7 with the 314 processors. The S7 with the 315 or higher processor is plug and play, but the 314 needs additional configuration done.

On the 314, verify the hardware profile is correct. Within the Standard library for the S7 are the communication blocks DP_Send and DP_Receive. These blocks need to be configured. DP_Send needs the address of the CP module, (in hex, retrieved from the hardware profile). The data block or memory location must be configured. In the DP_Receive, they also need the CP module address and memory locations.

NOTES:

1. There are other data bits that need to be set up here that do not pertain to your Hardy unit.
2. Data blocks, or memory locations must be the same size as the Hardy configuration or you will receive errors.
3. The memory setup for the processor may be in bytes instead of words.

The 314 configuration will appear to be setting the memory locations, but without properly configuring the DP_Send and DP_Receive, it will not communicate.

The 315 or higher processor appears to set up the memory locations with no problems.
