How can I increase the capacity of my weighing system?

Last updated 07-29-2015 10:32

Question

I have been using my Hardy weigh system for years with no problems. It is a 100kg system and now I need to increase the capacity to 200kg. How can I increase my Hardy scale capacity?

Answer

The ability to measure a certain weight is determined by the capacity of the load cell(s). Your Hardy Instrument controller measures the millivolt output signal from the load cell(s). This signal is the same for a 2 kg load cell or a 200,000 kg load cell. If you want to measure higher weight you will need to install higher capacity load cell(s) and re-calibrate your Hardy Instrument.

Your load sensor may already be sufficient to handle that extra weight.  Add the deadload (hopper, motor and piping) plus the 200kg of material,.  If that amount is higher than the rated capacity of your load cell a new load cell is required.

There are other ways if you do not a label on the load cell.  The load cell would be assumed a 2mV/V and with the 5 V excitation the maximum load would be 10mV.  This measured at the signal input of the load cell connector on the back of the weight controller.  If you have less than 10mV with a full load then you may have room.  Add material slowly, monitoring that mV signal.  If you can safely fit the product in the scale and be under 10mV, then you are safe.
