Does the HI 2110WI replace the HI 2151/20WC or HI 2151/30WC?

Question

We are upgrading our facility and want to replace existing HI 2151/20WC and HI 2151/30WC controllers. The contractor recommends replacement of these units with new HI 2110WI units. What is the value added? Why not use the existing units?

Will the HI 2110WI's be drop-in replacements?

Answer

The HI 2110WI is interchangeable with both the HI 2151/20WC and the HI 2151/30WC, it just has fewer options available. The HI 2110WI is a stripped-down version of the HI 2151/30WC. The HI 2151/20WC has been discontinued and replaced by the HI 2151/30WC. If you were not using serial ports, Integrated Technician, or relays with your HI 2151/20WC then a HI 2110WI would be a less expensive replacement. We see no reason why you should replace a HI 2151/30WC with a HI 2110WI.

If you replace a HI 2151/20WC with either a HI 2151/30WC or a HI 2110WI, you will need to reprogram and re-calibrate it. The secure memory module (SMM) in the HI 2151/20WC is not interchangeable to either the HI 2151/30WC or to the HI 2110WI. The SMM for the HI 2151/30WC and the HI 2110WI is the same part number, but if you try to swap between the different models the parameters are different and will not work in the other unit. If you clear the memory then you can swap SMM's between the HI 2151/30WC and the HI 2110WI, but you will need to re-calibrate. Clearing the memory obviously removes the reason for swapping the SMM's in the first place.

If your system used intrinsic safety barriers for isolation from hazardous rated areas.  The barrier selection has changed.  Review the Hazardous area rating for the HI 2151/30WC.  There is not any hazardous rating for the HI 2110WI.

The HI 2110WI unit is similar to the HI 2151/30WC with fewer features.

It is easier to list what features are NOT included on the HI 2110WI:

1. No Serial/Printer Communication.
2. No INTEGRATED TECHNICIAN® diagnostics.
3. No Excitation Monitor.
4. No internal relays or set points.
5. Remote functions are activated with the purchase of the option.
6. There is only one option port available.
7. No Wall Mount (-WS) option available.
