Do I need to use the HI WS100 Configuration Software?

Last updated 10-20-2014 09:14

Question

I just purchased new Hardy load cells and an HI 1746WS module. The manual that came with the module says that the software is optional. If the software is optional how does the PLC communicate with the module? Do I need to use the HI WS100 Configuration Software to communicate with my HI 1746WS?

Answer

The HI WS100 software is optional and is not necessary for operation of the module.
The HI WS100 software is for configuration and troubleshooting/testing only. If you do not have the WS 100 software, then all configuration is through ladder logic in the SLC processor.  Communications with the HI 1746WS module is through the backplane with the processor. The module has 32 words of Scanned I/O and 128 words in its M files. Full configuration can be done through the M files and operational data is available through the I/O tables.

There is sample code that may help that you can download from the Hardy web site at hardysolutions.com then click on Docs and Programs.  The sample code can help with the commands but the Integrated Technician data is not available through ladder logic.  You can only get the Integrated Technician data through the WS 100 software.
