Can we use 24vdc for the excitation voltage on a HI 2204LT?

Question

We are interfacing our HI 2204LT or HI 2201LT with an Allen-Bradley 1756-IF8 card. Can we use 24Vdc for the excitation voltage on a HI 2204LT or HI 2201LT? Would you have a wiring diagram for this?

Answer

You can use 24vdc as source power to the HI 2200 series transmitter. The HI 2204LT and (now obsolete) HI 2201LT modules are a loop powered device that is typically 24vdc.  15 vdc to 50 vdc is an acceptable source voltage.  The HI 2204LT and HI 2201LT generates a pulsed excitation voltage of 5 vdc at 90hz.

You can find a wiring diagram for this module on our web site at www.hardysolutions.com and going to the products page for the HI 2204LT.  There is a selection for DOCs, data sheets and manual with a PDF file available with specs and a wiring diagram.

The only difference between the HI 2201LT and the HI 2204LT is the HI 2201LT is FM approved.

The HI2201LT was pulled from production as of Jan 2013.
