Question

Can my Hardy Instrument be used in a continuous weigh belt application?

Answer

Hardy controllers with high speed digital communications to a PC or PLC can perform continuous weigh belt measurements. This includes the HI 2110 WI, HI 2151/30WC, HI 3030, HI 4050, HI 1746WS, HI 1756WS, HI 1769WS, HI 6300 series, and the HI 1771WS model units.

When the goal is to determine the amount of material that has passed a section of conveyor that has a scale underneath it, the following procedure may be used:

1. Use a tachometer, indexer, or similar device to determine when product has moved the length of the weighing surface. The tachometer is monitored through the PLC or DCS system.  The PLC system then reads the weight provided by the Hardy controller.  None of the Hardy controllers have the ability to monitor and control using a raw tachometer input signal.

2. Each time step #1 occurs the PLC adds the Net weight of the product on the belt to a register in the PC or PLC.

3. Display the accumulated Total on a panel view or similar device for the operator.

4. Provide the operator with a switch or push button to clear the accumulated total between batches.

The following communications may be used to transfer the weight data to the PC or PLC, depending on which model Hardy controller you are using, and which options are in that instrument.

Communication Type Options: Check availability of the communications option by controller model type.  Listed after each communications option.
