Can I directly enter calibration values in the HI 2160RC?

Last updated 07-28-2014 03:41

Question

I would like to be able to do a very rough calibration on my HI 2160RC without emptying the hopper on the load cell. This is useful in several instances, such as when an instrument is replaced and the hopper is full. We need a very rough calibration to allow us to avoid our interlocks and run enough to get empty and do a real calibration. I seem to remember a way to put "fake" zero and span counts, but I can't find anything in the manual.

Can I get a procedure for direct entering calibration values in my HI 2160RC?

Answer

If you have Hardy C2® load cells you can enter in an estimate of the amount of product you have in the hopper as your reference point. This will allow a calibration without having to empty the hopper.

If you do not have Hardy C2® load cells then you should be able to do a restore from one of the memory locations. This will then restore the calibration into the active calibration memory. If you had to swap out a damaged unit, and they are like models, then you should swap the Secure Memory Module (SMM) from the old to the new units and then do the restore. You cannot swap the SMM between a HI 2160RC, a HI 2160RCPLUS nor the HI4060.

Doing the restore assumes you did a save to a memory location after getting the unit calibrated previously. If you did not do a save in the past, then you cannot do a calibration that will allow you to run (not even a rough calibration) without emptying the hopper and removing the weight.

With the HI 4060 the zero reference can be changed without affecting the system calibration.  If you have C2 calibration you can set the reference point at any level.  If you do not have C2 load cells and will need to perform a traditional calibration with a other than zero reference point.  Place additional test weight on the hopper and use that test weight plus the weight in the vessel as the cal HI entry and perform the calibration.  There is not any cal parameters that can be entered to fake a calibration.

With the HI2160RC now obsolete it is time to consider an upgrade to one of our HI4060 or PLC FC Feeder Controller modules.
