Can I copy the parameters in my HI 3000 or HI 4000 series controllers?

Last updated 04-29-2016 11:13

Question

How can I download all of the parameters in the HI 3000 series or HI 4000 series units so I have them if I need to set-up a replacement? Are there any parameters that do not get downloaded and need to be manually recorded? Do I need a specific software?

Answer

The information on the HI 3000 series Secure Memory Module and HI 4000 series SD card is in text format and contains the parameters file. You can access this file by using a PC with a web browser connected to your units built-in EtherNet port and click on Operations, Diagnostics then Parameters.

The easiest way to save your HI 3000 or HI 4000 series parameters would be to:

1. Using the Ethernet port and a browser enter the web server operations menu.
2. Select the diagnostics screen.
3. Under the diagnostic screens there are parameter selections read-write. Open this page and all the settings are listed.
4. Highlight all the parameters, copy and save to a text file.

On the HI 4050 units with firmware version less than 1.10.0.0 and HI 4060 units with firmware version less than 1.2.0.0, the IP address was not saved to the SD card.  If you have one of the earlier versions, you would need to record the IP address using a different method.

Performing the above steps will save everything except the calibration. You can save this data in a txt file on your computer.  This file can also be emailed to another location and either saved or installed into another unit.

When you need to copy to another instrument or restore information, access that units parameters file, copy and paste into the parameter selection read-write and then click update/save. The information is restored.

There is not any special software needed for this. All you need is access to a computer and the IP address of your Hardy Instrument.  It is recommended that you use a text program like Notepad to save and/or edit the parameters with, as it does not add any hidden characters into the text like other word processor programs do.

For the HI 4000 series, you can also remove the SD card from the unit and place in a card reader to copy the file to a computer.  You can also copy to a different SD card and use as a backup.

You can remove and replace (hot swap) the HI 4050 or HI 4060 SD card under power. We recommend you do NOT hot swap your HI 3000 series SMM. The HI 3000 series SMM can become corrupted if you try to hot swap it.
