Can I connect my HI 4050 or HI 3000 to a PC?

Last updated 09-28-2015 03:30

Question

Can a HI 4050 or HI 3000 series controllers connect to my laptop or desktop personal computer?

Answer

The HI 4050 has Ethernet IP, Modbus over Ethernet, RIO, Profibus and DeviceNet options available for bi-directional communications. It also has Analog Output (both voltage and current) available for transmitting an analog signal to a PC. You can connect a PC or PLC to your HI 4050 through one of these connections.

The HI 4050 and HI3000 series controller have a serial output port to go to a printer or external scoreboard display. They do not have a bi-directional serial port.

Serial connections are:

Pin 1 ISO GND to the DB9 -5 (didn't work connected to GND)
Pin 3 RXD to the DB9 -3
Pin 4 TXD to the DB9 -2
HI3030 Setup configuration
"Scoreboard, 9600, 8bits, 1 stop bit" Setup
HyperTerminal settings to match
